Theresa from Faerie Moon Creations Interview & Giveaway

*Contest is closed*

Thank you so much for joining me for my Giveaway-A-Day Countdown to My 25th Birthday Bash! It's so great to have you here!

Thank you so much for inviting me!

Can you tell me a little about yourself?

I live in Central Connecticut with my husband and two Keeshonds (Willow and Neo). We named Willow for the character in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Neo after a character in the Matrix! I've loved art ever since I was a small child. I was always creating something or another...while all the other kids were outside playing, I was inside drawing, painting or doodling away!

When did you start making jewelry?

I started making jewelry last August. Originally, I started only with little glass and wooden pendants affixed to ball chains. But I was hungry to create more. So, my husband and I decided to purchase beads, pendants and a few books – and off we went! My husband designs most of the wired and hammered work that you see in our shop. It's fun working with him – together we make a great designing team!

What other arts and crafts do you enjoy?

I love photography, knitting, making soy wax candles, paper crafts, painting, drawing, cooking and baking. I like to do it all!

Since Faerie is in your shop's name, are they your favorite paranormal beings?

I do love faeries very much...I have a collection of faerie art from Amy Brown and Paulina Cassidy in my home. I also have a collection of gargoyles, as well as owls and ravens, folk art, and tons of memorabilia from my favorite movie of all time-The Nightmare Before Christmas. I adore vampires, too...the romantic notion of vampires. I love watching True Blood and The Vampire Diaries.

How do you usually get the ideas for your designs?

I really like to try and make jewelry and knit accessories that I personally would want to wear. Everything in the shop is directly influenced by my love of faeries, folklore and myths, nature and wildlife, Marie Antoinette, the Victorian era, and fantasy. We like to make our creations whimsical yet affordable and really fun to wear! Each piece is a one of a kind creation, so you can be assured that no one else will be wearing them – except for you!

What kind of pieces do you usually enjoy making the most?

I like creating our domino pendants the most because I love incorporating a truly one of a kind pendant with a cluster of amazingly pretty beads. They are truly statement pieces!

I really enjoy looking around the shops on Etsy and supporting them. Do you find it to be a supportive community to be involved with?

I do! I have met a lot of great artisans, many of whom are also on twitter and write their own blogs. As independent crafters, it's important for us to create a vital community in which to support each other and our work!

What are your favorite genres and books to read?

As you might have guessed, I prefer fantasy novels and children's literature! Some favorite authors include Lewis Carroll, J.R.R. Tolkien, Neil Gaiman, Charles De Lint, Alice Hoffman, Edith Wharton, the Brontes, Jane Austen. I also love poetry. And I DO adore the Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer!

Since this is an event in celebration of my birthday, I was wondering what is your best birthday memory?

I don't think I have one specific best birthday memory. I enjoy them all, really. Any birthday in which I get to spend quality time with my hubby – going to watch a great movie, have a delicious dinner, and then devouring chocolate cake represents a perfect birthday celebration for me!

Do you participate in craft fairs or other events? If so, where are your next events?

I actually have not participated in any craft fairs, and I don't have any plans to do so. I really love maintaining a shop on line. Since the majority of our pieces are one-of-a-kind, I think our work is really a better fit for the Internet as opposed to a craft fair since we'd have to create twice as many pieces.

Where else can we find you? (websites, blog, facebook, twitter, etsy, etc.)

There are a number of venues on line in which to find me:

My taste in jewelry tends to bemore of a fantasy theme...I love celtic designs, fairies, hummingbirds, etc., and I like the colors to match my clothes, so whatever color I am wearing works for my jewelry! I LOVED about a dozen pairs of earrings on Faerie Moon's website, and if I wasn't broke right now I would have ordered several pairs!

Filling out the contest form...please enter me!

@Moonsanity- Yes, it really is! I was so happy she agreed to do this. And doing a happy dance when she decided to design a pieces especially for it. I'm so jealous. I want it. I'm w/ you on the Celtic jewelry though! :)

My jewelry taste is usually simple classic look, but when it comes to fun earrings, I do like the gothic style.

I love all kinds of jewelry. I dont, however, like very fancy types like pearls..eww...I like color, silver, anything different!

Amanda Leigh said...

@DforDarla- Another Celtic fan! Woo hoo!

@Julie- I have a lot of classic jewelry too. That way you know you can always wear it. Well, and of course Gothic is awesome! lol

@lori clark- Yeah, there have been very few pearl things that I like, but there are a few. I have tons of fun silver pieces, and almost as much black. I'm trying to add in more color. :)

Me and earrings - it's a funny thing. I managed to live 27 years without them and then one day just thought: I feel like getting my ears pierced :D Now I'm thinking why didn't I get them sooner, there are just soo many beautiful earrings out there. I don't know if I have a special style or theme I like but Theresa's jewelry is absolute fav! She is a really good friend too!!! :D
I would so love to win these earrings! Would walk proudly everywhere LOL

Great interview. I loved hearing about what inspires you. The jewellery is gorgeous. x

Amanda Leigh said...

@Martha- Dressy is good. :)

@Mariann- So long w/ out earrings! There are so many different kinds. I think people can tell a lot about you just from your jewelry. Like mine has a bit of everything (though heavy w/ black and silver), but very unique pieces.

@SusanKMann- Here shop is fabulous. And her jewelry is great! I own 2 pairs of earrings already! Need more... lol

I'm too cuddly and cheerful looking to carry a goth look but I look great in dark colours (black, burgundy, dark purple) and love unusual earrings including goth style ones.

Amanda Leigh said...

@Maggi- Thanks for stopping by!

@EVA SB- I look best in dark colors too. :) Unusual earrings are more fun!

I tend to like thick bands of leather around my wrists and large decorative chunks of silver in my ears but my workplace demands demure... LOL. So I make up for it when I go out!

Amanda Leigh said...

@Sweet Vernal Zephyr- I have a few leather bands myself. And silver takes up at least half my collection. :)

Those Earrings Are Gorgeous. My Style Has Always Been More Geared Toward Gothic. I Am So Not That Into Bright And Frilly. I Have Also Never Loved Gold It Was Always Silver Or White Gold Because It Looked Like Silver To Me.

Sara said...

Such beautiful earrings!
No, I can't say that my jewelry style goes toward goth, I just wear "regular" jewelry! ;)
