Review: Destined For an Early Grave- by Jeaniene Frost

Since half-vampire Cat Crawfield and her undead lover Bones met six years ago, they've fought against the rogue undead, battled a vengeful Master vampire, and pledged their devotion with a blood bond. Now it's time for a vacation. But their hopes for a perfect Paris holiday are dashed when Cat awakes one night in terror. She's having visions of a vampire named Gregor who's more powerful than Bones and has ties to her past that even Cat herself didn't know about.
Gregor believes Cat is his and he won't stop until he has her. As the battle begins between the vamp who haunts her nightmares and the one who has her heart, only Cat can break Gregor's hold over her. She'll need all the power she can summon in order to bring down the baddest bloodsucker she's ever faced ... even if getting that power will result in an early grave.
(Summary from Jeaniene's website)

This is the fourth book in the Night Huntress series, and they really do just keep getting better. Once again I recommend starting from the first book and the order is listed at the bottom of this post. This book takes off in a much different direction. Cat has quit her job with the secret supernatural branch of Homeland Security and finds herself on a vacation with Bones. That cannot last, however, and Cat soon finds herself pursued by yet another master vampire, Gregor. She does know this one, even though she can not remember what happened when he thrust himself into her life when she was sixteen. They have some kind of a connection, but she's not sure how deep that goes or what that means for her and Bones. Bones refuses to listen to anyone who would suggest that Cat may not be his, and he tries to both look out for her safety while trying to figure out how to simply eliminate the competition.

Cat will be tested in what she can handle in ways she didn't think she would have to and her and Bones's relationship will be tested to the breaking point. Is there anything that could tear them apart? Is it possible that as strong as Cat is, she isn't prepared to handle what's in front of her now?

Loved this book! Tons of action. Plenty of romance. Interesting turn of events that surprised me (which does not happen easily mind you). Spade. Vlad. And of course plenty of Bones! I'm a happy girl! It's going to be torture waiting for the next book in the series, but don't fret...there's a spinoff series that's already started. Check out more info on the first book in the Night Huntress World series, First Drop of Crimson, it will go into the story of Cat's friend Denise and Bones's friend Spade. I'm going to have to get this one as soon as it comes out. It's got a February 9, 2010 release date and I for one cannot wait!

The order in which you should read the Night Huntress series:
1. Halfway to the Grave
2. One Foot in the Grave
3. At Grave's End
4. Destined For an Early Grave

Review: At Grave's End- by Jeaniene Frost

It should be the best time of half-vampire Cat Crawfield's life. With her undead lover Bones at her side, she's successfully protected mortals from the rogue undead. But though Cat's worn disguise after disguise to keep her true identity a secret from the brazen bloodsuckers, her cover's finally been blown, placing her in terrible danger.
As if that wasn't enough, a woman from Bones's past is determined to bury him once and for all. Caught in the crosshairs of a vengeful vamp, yet determined to help Bones stop a lethal magic from being unleashed, Cat's about to learn the true meaning of bad blood. And the tricks she's learned as a special agent won't help her. She will need to fully embrace her vampire instincts in order to save herself – and Bones – from a fate worse than the grave.
(Summary from Jeaniene's website)

This is the third novel in Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress series. I really do recommend reading them in order. Cat and Bones are both wonderful characters, and I have enjoyed their development both alone and together.
Cat has gone from hating vampires to embracing her vampire-half in order to become a stronger woman and accept herself and Bones completely. She has to embrace that vampire side in this book in order to make it through all of the trails that face her and Bones from an enemy that she doesn't even know, named Petra. The toughest thing yet lies ahead, and things beyond their imagining are about to unfold.
I have to mention the addition of a secondary character in this book. Vlad Tepesh, otherwise known as Dracula, makes his first appearance, as Bones's reluctant ally. The enemy of your enemy is your friend. I believe he is my favorite secondary character so far...well, there is Spade as well, who also makes a reappearance in this book. In fact there is a long list of secondary characters for this one, which is great because I love them all! Jeaniene has not disappointed with this book, in fact I continue to fall in love with the Night Huntress world and Bones more with each book and cannot wait to start Destined For an Early Grave, in fact that's what I'm going to go do right now!

Night Huntress novels in order:
-Halfway to the Grave
-One Foot in the Grave
-At Grave's End
-Destined for an Early Grave

Review: One Foot In the Grave- by Jeaniene Frost

Cat Crawfield is not only a half-vampire, she is now a special agent for a secret branch of Homeland Security. Leading a team of agents picked and trained by her, she goes after rogue vampires. Using the training that she received from Bones, her ex-partner/vampire-lover, she is building quite a reputation for herself. It is no wonder when she finds out that someone is killing people with the sole purpose to lure her in. The real surprise is when she stumbles upon Bones, and he is the only one who has the ability to help save her. The main problem is how can she be around him without letting herself be drawn back to him. Bones did promise that he wouldn't let her get away. There is also the problem that she promised her boss that she would not have any contact with Bones when she took the job.
The chemistry between Cat and Bones sizzles in this book just as it did in the first. There is murder, fighting, love, hate, sex, scandal, and great conversations between Bones and Cat's mom that had me laughing out loud. This book did not disappoint. In fact, I am now more in love with Bones than before. More secondary characters are introduced as well, which are all wonderful in both evil and great ways! I can't wait to delve further into the Night Huntress world!

Review: Halfway to the Grave- Jeaniene Frost

Catherine Crawfield is a half-vampire determined to find her vampire father, and kill him. All the vampires that she finds and kills in the process are just a bonus. Using herself as bait she tracks them down and takes them out. Then, she finds one that completely throws her off her game and captures her. Bones is unlike any of the vampires she's met before and he's stronger. What he wants is also much different. Surprisingly he doesn't want her for a snack. He wants her help. Can she put away her hate for vampires to learn from him?
Through their combined skills they are quite a team, but they attract the attention of a group of vampires that are unlike anything Cat has faced before. Now, because of Bones she is in the most danger she has ever been. Something else she did not plan on...the danger of Bones himself, but not in the way she thought. Bones is strong, sexy, seductive, and one of my favorite characters that I've read. Personally, I'm in love, how will Cat fair?
